Hi guys. Me and nathan usually give the rats food in a food bowl. However, sometimes we hide it in a cardboard tube or put it in a purpose built food ball that provides a puzzle before the rats get the food. The rats seem to get so much from this and it turns a meal into entertainment too. I was just wondering if anyone else had any good ideas to mke food interesting...

I cant remember the name of them exactly but i think they are used for rabbits? Its a coiled wire ball on a chain, i use these to put vegie sticks in, my little babies love it. They jump up, grab on and swing about for ages clinging on for dear life to a carrot stick.

I think you mean a treatball. We got one of those but midget our resident genious worked out a easy way of geting the food out. the other two used to encourage her to get it. then steal it from her.

Another thing not to get the ratties is a bordem breaker ball yo uput trats in it and when the ratties roll it treats will drop out of a hole at the bottem. However my rats thought "sod this" and in one night chewed 3 massive holes in the thing and just took the treats out.

I used to enjoy sprinkling little bits of food into the sawdust and bedding of the rat cage, this gave the rats something to look for and dig out, I also used to give them things such as tomatos without popping the skin, so that they had to pop it themselves, thus making meals into a rats favourite pass-time: Breaking stuff!

One thing we once did was put a whole boiled egg in with the shell on and everything. They went MENTAL for it. Only trouble was that they had a massive fight over it so in future i would suggest one egg per rat. It really provided them with a challenge though and something very tasty at the end of it.
