So, I'm sure you have noticed our new post in the obituaries section. The thing is, whilst Bender was with us, we were having to try a range of tactics to get her baytril down her; honey, jam, rice pudding etc. Part of the whole strategy was also to keep diasy happy and not feeling left out, so she often got a bit of whatever was going that night. This has resulted in daisy now weighing the same as Tupac!!! (that's about twice as much as she should). Although she isn't too concerned about this, we are. We don't want to loose another one earlier that we need to. So.... I've been looking into diets for ratties and up to now the best i have found is the 'Shunamite' diet which can be found at.. www.suite101.com/external_link.cfm?elink=http://www.shunamiterats.co.uk/diet.htmlbasically it is: Approx 45-50% by volume Alpha herbal Deluxe Rabbit food or substitute Approx 10% by volume dry (uncooked) pasta spirals Approx 5-10% by volume Alpha Lite Dog Kibble or substitute Approx 35-40% by volume mixed human breakfast cereals from list. What does everyone think? Know anything better? Or have you tried it and have feedback? I'm not gonna start the diet till i know daisy is coping well without Bender so it will be a few days.

I started feeding a version of the shunamite diet because it is so much cheaper!! My lot were going through the pets at home museli in a week or two, got a tad expensive! I now mix half a gigantic bag of alpha herbal £5 Turkey and Rice flavoured dog kibble £6 ( ) A box a bran flakes and cornflakes cheap from tesco I also give them pasta cooked/uncooked/cooked with olive oil in a separate bowl. I can see this batch lasting me months and months on end and cost about £15 altogether! Health benefits......not too knowledgable on this subject but my rats are all healthy so it cant be too bad!!!

sounds good, a lower cost is always a benefit. especially since we have been paying so much recently in ratty vet bills. i think i'm going to go with it and make sure that she isn't eating too much either. like i said though, will wait till i know she is coping ok. seems to be doing fine though so will probably start it as soon as i buy all the stuff.
