Heres a place to list all the places your rats will call home that you can get for free.
We get cardboard tubes from my works, toilet roll tubes (mostly for kittens) or any kind of box. A shoe box was my rats firm favourite however make sure you take the silicon packets out fo the box before you give it to your rats check under all the folds, cos if your rats get them it will kill them.

This is a bit of a weird one, but I've found my ratties love a hollowed out piece of a small tree stump. They stuffed one end closed with bits of old cloth I gave them, and they cuddle up in there. It's kinda hard to get if you live in the city, but in the country its pretty easy. I just made sure there were no bugs in it, and sanded the inside so that they wouldn't catch their little nails on the wood.

Well...that's the harder part, my home is in the country and my dad works in the forest so I got one fairly easy... I guess you just kind of have to keep your eyes peeled for a good-sized branch or something, and you can always hollow it out yourself if you were so inclined...

my rats like mail tubes with holes cut in it when they are playing
In their cage i made them a free hammock/sling by cutting the hood off an old hoodie and hanginf it to the wall it was easy because there were already holes for the string to hand it with from the draw string eventually they chewed it to peices but loved it until that point
