from what i heard thay get respatory problems from the smell not the dust so depending what wood its from i think cedar wood is one i keep mine on this special odor stuff its called carefresh it looks like cardbord stuff and thay love playing with it and it keeps the smell down u can buy from pets at home for £2.99 i think but i buy it from my local petshop and one bag covers the bottom of my cage so thats a substitute for sawdust and wood shavings if any one would like a change!

hi i have 3 rats and i used to use wood shavings which were a bit dusty my two 5month olds were fine with it but when i got casper my baby he was sneezing like evey 10seconds and i thought he had a respiratory problem but i changed the bedding to something less dusty and he doesnt sneeze any more poor little guy it must have just been too much for his little nose i was quite scared that he was sick and would make my other ratties sick as well:( but they are all healthy and happy now
